The Children’s Museum of Minot Board of Directors is proud to announce today the largest corporate donation to date for the Magic City Discovery Center capital campaign, $500,000 from SCHEELS. This key investment in the future of the project shows Scheels’ dedication to education and their desire to positively impact all children throughout the region.
“We couldn’t be happier to make this announcement of support for the Magic City Discovery Center. A donation of this size requires buy-in from local store leadership and employees and I am proud to say that 100 percent of our associates truly support this amazing addition to our region,” said Lucas Hachmeister, Minot SCHEELS Store Leader. “The Magic City Discovery Center will serve families in our city and the surrounding communities and will be a great source of pride in our community.”
“SCHEELS has been part of the Minot community for over 40 years, and although our stores may have changed over time, our commitment to supporting our local communities has remained steadfast,” said Hachmeister. “Many exciting improvements and developments are happening in Minot, and SCHEELS will continue to be an active supporter of this community.”
The $500,000 SCHEELS donation will sponsor the “Air Flow” exhibit gallery within the discovery center. Past and ongoing donations from the Dakota Square Mall SCHEELS store in the Minot region include the United Way, YWCA, Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Minot State University, Souris River Basin Longbeards, Dream Catchers, and many others every year.
“This is a legacy gift from SCHEELS and by all accounts is the largest donation of its kind from the Company/Store in the Minot region,” said Mark Lyman, president of the MCDC Board of Directors. “We couldn’t be more grateful to the SCHEELS corporation, and the local store leaders and employees who are showing their support for the Magic City Discovery Center through this enormous corporate donation.”
A capital campaign is currently underway to raise at least $7 million to construct a 21,000 square-foot building on Minot Park District land on north hill in Minot. The capital campaign funds will also design and build 4-5 exhibit galleries of varying sizes and set up funding for a museum endowment – along with other items.
