MCDC Makes Front Page of MDN! Magic City Discovery Center Moves Forward
Despite these turbulent times, we are moving forward toward our goal of opening the Magic City Discovery Center in 2021. We are fortunate that through the generosity of many, and prudently managing and maximizing our funds, we are planning to move forward by researching and identifying potential alternative locations in which to realize our dream of a world-class museum for the Minot region.
We believe the community needs the museum now! This determination has led us to discover new and unique opportunities. We are analyzing three to five existing buildings and plan to make our final decision by the end of summer on whether or not to renovate an existing building or refocus our efforts on building a new facility on North Hill. The Magic City Discovery Center (MCDC) will provide children and their families, as well as educators and their students, with stimulating, safe environments for self-directed, unstructured play and exploration, while focusing on STEAM concepts and the North Dakota educational standards. We currently offer educational outreach opportunities and our new space will allow us to serve the broader community year-round.
The Magic City Discovery Center is also thrilled to announce that our exhibit design is 90% complete. Our exciting and innovative exhibits will be fabricated and ready to fill our new space. This course of action allows MCDC to stay true to our mission to engage children and families in the magic of lifelong learning through discovery, creativity, and play and progress toward our goal of a 2021 grand opening.
“We can’t thank our ambassadors and partners enough. We have been truly blessed to have the full support of the Minot Park District, Minot Area Community Foundation, City of Minot, Scheels, Ackerman-Estvold and so many others. We would not be in such a great position without the amazing support from our community” said Karen Rasmusson, Board President.
