We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Magic City Discovery Center board member, Dr. Heidi Super! Heidi will be leading our upcoming Genes in Action Camp, July 9–11 from 9 AM–12 PM, and we can’t wait for you to meet her.
Born and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming, Heidi has always been an outdoor adventurer with a passion for science. Inspired by her high school biology teacher and a summer research experience at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, she followed her curiosity into the world of genetics. Heidi earned her undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Carroll College in Helena, Montana, and later completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Chicago, where she studied genes altered in leukemia.
Heidi spent 25 years as a professor at Minot State University, teaching genetics, immunology, molecular biology, and cancer biology, while mentoring students on research projects exploring genetic changes in cancer cells. She joined the Magic City Discovery Center board in 2019 and has been a passionate advocate for our mission ever since.
Why is she excited about Genes in Action Camp?
Heidi loves sharing the wonders of science with young minds and showing kids that they’re capable of exploring the same questions scientists ask every day. She believes discovery should be fun, hands-on, and confidence-building — and this camp will do exactly that! “It’s an incredible opportunity to spark curiosity and show kids how fascinating the world of genes and biology can be,” she says.
We’re so lucky to have Heidi’s enthusiasm, expertise, and heart for lifelong learning at the Discovery Center. Join us for Genes in Action Camp and discover just how exciting science can be!
