Discover the Magic Pathway: Music, Movement, and Play Outdoors

The Magic City Discovery Center has a brand-new way for families to play, explore, and connect, and it’s just outside our doors! We’re thrilled to introduce the Magic Pathway, an interactive, ADA-designed sidewalk lined with outdoor musical instruments that transforms a simple walk into a joyful, sensory-rich adventure.

What Makes the Pathway Magical?

The Magic Pathway stretches from the front of the Discovery Center to the base of the hill behind our building. But this isn’t your ordinary sidewalk. The Magic Pathway is alive with music and creativity. Along the way, families will discover large-scale instruments like Contrabass Chimes, Griffin chimes, and even a botanical garden ensemble, all designed to be played by visitors of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re making melodies together, keeping rhythm with friends, or simply pausing to listen, the Pathway invites every guest to explore sound and movement in new and exciting ways.

A Gift of Generosity

This new feature was made possible thanks to the generous support of Myron and Shirley Thompson and family, whose gift helped bring the Magic Pathway to life. Their generosity reflects the spirit of discovery, inclusion, and creativity we strive to inspire every day.

As our Executive Director, Matthew Farnsworth, shares:

“We are deeply grateful to Myron and Shirley Thompson for making the Magic Pathway possible. Their generosity has allowed us to create more than just a sidewalk; it’s a welcoming, musical space that enhances accessibility and connects our visitors in new ways.”

More Than a Sidewalk

The Magic Pathway is more than an addition to our grounds; it’s an extension of our mission. By combining sound, movement, and outdoor play, the Pathway offers a multi-sensory experience that is both accessible and inspiring. It’s a reminder that learning and creativity don’t stop at the museum doors, they can happen anywhere, even on a simple walk outside.

Explore It for Yourself

While the Discovery Center will be closed for deep cleaning from September 8–18, families don’t have to wait to enjoy the Magic Pathway. The instruments and outdoor space will be open for exploration during that time, making it the perfect opportunity to enjoy fresh air, music, and play.

Come stroll, strike a chord, and discover how a sidewalk can turn into a symphony of creativity. We can’t wait for you to experience the Magic Pathway!
