The Magic City Discovery Center (MCDC) Board of Directors announced the award of a $500,0000 grant from the Engelstad Foundation.
“This generous award moves us closer to the goal of building a children's discovery museum and providing children with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) learning opportunities,” said Karen Rasmusson, MCDC Board President. “Our center will help children connect school, community, work and their world. On behalf of the entire MCDC Board, I wish to thank the Engelstad Foundation for their investment in education for our children.”
The Engelstad Foundation grant will provide funding for the permanent Magic City Discovery Center building and exhibits. This new center will be a dynamic community resource serving the needs of children from birth to age 14. MCDC will offer many opportunities for hands-on learning through their 11 interactive exhibit galleries, Magic Climber, camps and educational programming.
“North Dakota’s first children’s museum will drive educational opportunities as well as tourism,” said Kris Engelstad McGarry, trustee of the Engelstad Foundation. “We see this investment in the Magic City Discovery Center as one more step forward in bringing engaging and impactful learning to North Dakotans." The Engelstad Foundation was created in 2002 to build solutions in medical research, improve day to day living for people with disabilities and raise possibilities for higher education, among other priorities. Since its inception, the foundation has provided more than $300 million in grants to organizations in North Dakota and throughout the United States.
